Media Resources

MISSION:
The GSIS library program supports and encourages daily class work, assignments, research projects, and academic and recreational reading. The GSIS Elementary and Middle School / High School Libraries serve over 500 students and 70 faculty members and provide resources that support the school curriculum and programs. The total collection of the two libraries is currently 20,605 items. The library is committed to serving the GSIS community with current materials, technological advances and professional resources. It continues to foster the love of reading and to support students in becoming effective and discerning users of the materials and information provided in the library.

 

LIBRARY HOURS: Monday – Friday: 7:50 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  

CIRCULATION INFORMATION:

6-8	3 items (1 of which may be a video/DVD)
9 and up	5 items (1 of which may be a video/DVD)
NOTE:	Extra books for class assignments may be borrowed in addition to the usual limit.

            *MS/HS students are encouraged to renew their books in order to avoid fines.

 

BORROWING: 

Middle School and High School students should have their library cards in order to borrow library materials. All items are to be signed out at the circulation desk before being taken out of the library. If materials are taken out of the library without permission or proper sign out, library privileges will be revoked. Students are responsible for all items signed out in their names and are expected to handle all library materials with care and respect at all times.

 

LIBRARY CARDS:

ID/Library cards are issued to MS/HS students once the registration process is completed and photos have been taken.  ID/Library cards are valid until the summer of students’ graduation year. The replacement cost for a lost ID/Library card is 5,000 won.

 

  * FINES:  

Fines apply to MS/HS students only. 

Books are considered overdue if they are returned to the library after the due date.

Students are notified weekly of any outstanding fines or overdue books.

Students with 2,000 won or more library fines or overdue materials will not be allowed to check out materials until the matter has been resolved. Bound library books are expensive with the average cost being approximately 35,000 won per book. Textbooks can be about 100,000 won.

  

Overdue Books or Videos/DVDs	250 won per day
Damaged materials	Cost of repair or replacement plus processing fee
Lost materials	Replacement cost plus processing fee

 

In the event of a lost library book:

1. A notification is sent to both the student and the Finance Office that includes a description of the lost item(s) and the replacement costs.

2. The Finance Office will bill the parents directly for all lost materials. 

3. The student will not be able to check out library books until the matter has been resolved.

 

 

COMPUTERS:

Computer use in the library is restricted to academic purposes only, NOT for personal pleasure or interests (e.g., games, online shopping, chatting). 

Laptop computer use in the MS/HS library is subject to the GSIS Technology Acceptable Use Contract signed by all middle school and high school students.

Library Catalog and other Electronic Resources can be accessed from the computer stations in the MS/HS Library and the computers in the computer lab.

 

LIBRARY ETIQUETTE:

The library is a place to read, study, or work on school assignments. It is NOT a place to socialize or play computer games.  

Students are expected to BE QUIET and considerate of others and library facilities at all times.

Food and drink is not permitted in the library.  

 

SCHOOL YEAR CEILING DATE:

 All library resources must be returned to the Library two weeks before the end of the school year. Students are responsible to resolve matters concerning outstanding library fines and overdue books by this date.  End of year grades may be withheld until all library issues are resolved.

Online Catalogue

The library catalogue is accessible from EDLINE under the "Links" category. The collection is arranged according to the Dewey Decimal classification system and contains more than 20,000 items.

WebPath Express provides access to educator-approved web sites from the library catalog. These sites are reviewed daily by experts from Follett Library Resources to ensure educational value. This is an
excellent time saver and a trusted resource. Internet sites show up in the catalog with a little blue ball and magnifying glass symbol. With a click on this symbol next to the subject heading of your choice, the
program displays various websites on the selected subject.
