Gyeonggi Suwon International School is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program, a program that encompasses grades 6-10. The current core academic program includes English language arts, science, mathematics, and social studies. The middle school student can choose electives in foreign language, music, choir, band, art, design and technology, and physical education. All students take Bible studies for one semester as well as participating in a weekly chapel program.
In the middle school division we incorporate the principles of Understanding by Design to ensure that we teach for understanding. We follow a criterion/standards based curriculum that utilizes diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment techniques to ensure authentic and valid assessment of student learning and understanding.
ELL students will be admitted into the middle school and placed appropriately based on the GSIS assessment process and space availability. ELL numbers will be monitored in the middle school and enrollment will be limited to 30% of the school-wide (K-12) enrollment. Students will be given extra support and language instruction if they test more than two grade levels below their age appropriate placement in reading comprehension skills in the admission assessment.
Our current enrolment in grades 6-8 is just over 160 students. We have a vibrant student population that is dedicated to academic excellence, while at the same time loves to get involved in the many co-curricular and extracurricular activities that are on offer. Our highly qualified teaching staff comprises many years of experience from a wide variety of countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Korea, Mexico, South Africa, and the Untied States.
