PYP Program
GSIS is at the Pre Authorization stage of becoming a recognized PYP school. We will complete the authorization process in February or 2011.
The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme focuses on the total growth of the developing child, touching hearts as well as minds and encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic development. At GSIS the students in Pre K through to Grade Five participate in this program.
The PYP draws on research and best practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant, engaging, challenging and significant educational framework for all children.
The back bone to this program is the IB Mission Statement which has been stated in simple terms through the IB Learner Profile. As you can see below the Profile lists qualities that all parents and teachers would hope to see in their children. It is our belief that if we can get our students to understand the importance of these qualities and characteristics, and get them to adopt them, then we will be well on our way to raising responsible and well rounded adults.
Inquirers / Thinkers / Communicators / Risk Takers / Knowledgeable
Caring / Principled / Reflective / Balanced / Open-Minded
The PYP curriculum fits our school mission statement, philosophy and goals. It engages our students in studies about issues and themes of universal significance and encourages them to become active learners and critical thinkers. It also connects our school to a wider international school network and an internationally respected educational organization, therefore stimulating and facilitating continuous school improvements.
