Elementary Music Program
The music program in the first through fourth grades is sequential and inquiry based. It provides students with a range of experiences that enhance their ability to read music notation, listen, sing, create, improvise and perform. They use solfege, non-pitch percussion instrument from around the world. They also use Orff barred instruments, bells, melodicas and recorders. Fifth grade students learn band instruments. All of the elementary students perform in the Christmas Concert and the Elementary Awards and Concert in the spring. These events are highlights for the students and every one works hard to contribute.
GRADE 5 This course is to foster an understanding, appreciation and a love for music. Units of study include Playing instruments, Singing, Creating and composing, Notation, Listening and appreciation. This class adheres to The PYP Music scope and sequence.

Middle School Music Program
MYP MUSIC the fundamental concept of our MYP music curriculum is to create and perform music and to study music theory, music technology, our culture and the cultures of others through music. Students meet objectives through the completion of interdisciplinary projects and direct course instruction which establish relevant links between subject areas and the areas of interaction.
MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSIC ELECTIVES meet two times a week after school Wednesday and Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Middle school band, choir and Orchestra give intermediate level musicians opportunities to further develop their skills in an ensemble setting. It is a performance-based ensemble. Participants perform two times during an academic year. Students have the opportunity to audition to participate in KAIAC Music Festivals
MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND is opened to any 6th, 7th and 8th grader who has played a band instrument for at least two years. This class meets in room 100 from 3:20 - 4:20.
MIDDLE SCHOOL CHOIR is open to sixth through eighth grade students. Warm up exercises, sight reading, unison singing and two-and three-part singing develop musical skills and artistic expression. In addition, students will learn the fundamentals of choral singing and vocal production which are guided by learning and performing standard works of the choral repertoire. This class meets in room 103 from 4:30 - 5:30.
MIDDLE SCHOOL STRING ORCHESTRA is open to sixth through eighth grade students that have played for at least one to two years. Elements of music theory, history, and instrument playing technique will be learned through the performance of musical works from around the world.
